St Columba Roman Catholic Church, Bridge of Don, Aberdeen
St Columba’s Church Centre completed in 1983 is jointly owned by the Roman Catholic Church and the Church of Scotland, a situation that is unique in Scotland. The Centre consists of two places of worship, the larger of the two has a church hall, two foyers, a lesser hall, a vestry and other offices.
In the Catholic Chapel there is an Altar which was consecrated in June 1984, a Font and a support for the Tabernacle made up of Aberdeen granite, which were executed by A. and J. Robertson Ltd. The vintage Tabernacle, a gift from Marydale, Cannich has a golden door with an engraved image of the Lamb in majesty. The statues of Our Lady and St Columba at the far sides of sanctuary area were executed by the local artist, Mrs Anne Davidson. The high cross on the south side of the building was designed by Brian Glassar of Gray’s School of Art. The congregation drawn largely from the Bridge of Don area has been growing in number through the years; and in the last census in November 2023 with Fr Patrick, as the parish priest, the number is over one hundred and fifty parishioners attending the weekend Masses. The parish is currently merged with Our Lady and St John the Baptist Church in Ellon.
